Dr. Oz Show | Dr. Martha Beck | Behavior

One of my favorite shows right now is Dr. Oz that appears nightly on News Channel 3 in Arizona. He covers so many important topics for woman around not only health care but life balance which is so important in today’s world. His personality, demeanor and approach to health care is absolutely fantastic. My goal is to share with Dr. Oz the work I do around leveraging behavior to improve ones health of mind.

Last night (12/11/09) they aired a topic around a 38 year old woman named “Rosemary” a health care nurse who was dealing with relatives with diabetes & Alzheimer’s, etc. and the stresses of having such a job. Additionally, her husband was out of work, therefore, requiring Rosemary to not only deal with the stresses of her job but also having to work 16 hours a day to keep food on the table.

What caught my interest in this particular episode was Dr. Oz had on Dr. Martha Beck a very well know life coach and she began sharing with “Rosemary” and positioned it around her “mental hygiene” and the fact that she was really a “care taker” at heart and needed to focus on rewarding herself from time to time. Now, I think that’s great but what jumped out at me was no one was coaching “Rosemary” around her behavior and how to leverage that. They were all talking to her symptoms and not the root cause which really is “who am I” and what behavior is driving what I do. That in itself is so powerful as once you truly understand “who you are and why you act the way you do” then it’s all about leveraging that to your benefit in every part of your life. It’s very exciting for me to see the value this knowledge brings to individuals, especially with the challenges we face these days. Raising the awareness in how your behaviors impact everyday life begin to build a new level of confidence in you through learning how to leverage your behavior to outperform.

My approach to coaching someone like this through say a behavioral assessment like PDP ProScan and show her how important her motivators are and what drives them. For more information on how you can leverage your behavior to outperform- just drop us a line from here!
